Abduction
Abduction is the movement of the limbs away from the midline of the body.
Accomodations
These include techniques and materials that make learning easier without changing the basic curriculum.
Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS)
An acquired defect of cellular immunity associated with infection by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).
Adduction
Adduction is the movements of the limbs towards the midline of the body.
Advocacy
Advocacy is the act of recognizing and communicating the needs, rights and interests on behalf of a child.
Asperger's syndrome
Asperger's Syndrome is a neurological condition on the autistic spectrum which occurs in approximately 1:300 people. People with asperger's syndrome have very good communication skills but lack in social skills.
Assessment
A process of gathering, recording and analyzing information about a child's knowledge and skills from a variety of sources and where, appropriate, providing descriptive feedback to guide the child's improvement.
Associative Play
A form of social participation where children play separate activities but interact with others by exchanging toys and commenting on one another's behaviour.
Asthma
An illness in which the bronchial tubes fill with mucus and contract leading to coughing, wheezing and other breathing difficulties.
Asymmetrical
One side of the body is different or unequal from the other side.
